Routine

On February 3, 2017 I made a drastic change to my skincare routine. Read on to learn about what I used to do and what I do now to cleanse my skin.

Before

My doctor in Chicago suggested I use the Vanicream brand. I loved this brand because it kept my skin moisturized (for the most part) throughout the day. Additionally, it didn’t burn (expect for when I had flare-ups) to use.

Morning

  1. Wash my body with Vanicream Cleansing Bar for Sensitive Skin
  2. Wash my face with Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser
  3. Pat my face dry with a towel
  4. Apply Vanicream Moisturizing Skin Cream for Sensitive Skin on my face and body

Throughout the Day

  1. Use Vanicream Moisturizing Skin Cream for Sensitive Skin after washing my hands/when I have dry hands

This routine worked well only when I didn’t have massive flare-ups. To control my eczema, I most recently used Desoximetasone Cream 0.25% (for my hands) and Tacrolimus Ointment 0.1% (for my face).

Now

After reading about the chemicals and irritants (on the ThinkDirty app) found in Vanicream, I decided to seek out skincare products that would be healthy for my eczema and skin overall. I have acne on top of my eczema so finding products for my skin is very tough (what works for eczema exacerbates my acne and vice versa). I previously only used products that worked well for my eczema but since using natural and pure products, I find my overall skin is healthier (other than my eczema)!

Morning 

  1. I sometimes make a mask out of Activated Charcoal Cleansing Grains and place it on my eczema flares
  2. Wash my body with Lavender Butter Soap
  3. Wash my face with Cucumber Juice Facial Cleansing Foam
  4. Pat my face dry
  5. Spray Jasmine Green Tea Tonique onto a cotton pad and rub it on my face
  6. Rub in one pump of Vitamin C Serum onto my face
  7. Lotion up my face with Jasmine Green Tea Moisturizer
  8. Rub Intensive Nourish Moisture Balm or EczaCalm on my eczema flare-ups (neck, face, hands)
  9. Rub Extra Gentle Baby Lotion onto the rest of my body

Throughout the Day

  1. Use Coconut Hand Buttercream and/or EczaCalm tamanu oil and lotion when my hands itch
  2. Use Lysine + Herbs Lib Balm when lips get dry
  3. Use Foaming Herbal Hand Soap Unscented

Night

  1. Every other night use the Clinique Sonic Brush for 30 seconds with Cucumber Juice Facial Cleansing Foam as a face wash
  2. Spray Jasmine Green Tea Tonique onto a cotton pad and rub it on my face
  3. Rub in one pump of Vitamin C Serum onto my face
  4. Lotion up my face with Intensive Nourish Moisture Balm EczaCalm on my problem spots
  5. Rub in five dots of Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream underneath my eyes
  6. Rub Intensive Nourish Moisture Balm on my neck and hands

Other

  1. I use Molly’s Suds for laundry
  2. I use Lavender + Eucalyptus + Rosemary deodorant
  3. I use Burdock & Neem Healthy Scalp Shampoo and Conditioner
  4. I use Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint Toothpaste
